Automobile axle (also called an axle) is connected to a frame (or a load-bearing body) through a suspension, and wheels are installed at both ends thereof. The role of the axle is to bear the load of the car and maintain the normal driving of the car on the road.
The driving system is divided into four main parts: Axles, wheels, frames and suspensions.
Classification: steering axle, steering axle, support axle
Role: Withstand the load of the car
The axle can be integrated, like a huge barbell, and the two ends support the vehicle body through a suspension system, so the integral axle is usually matched with a non-independent suspension; the axle can also be disconnected, like two Umbrellas are inserted on both sides of the vehicle body, and then the vehicle body is supported by the suspension system, so the disconnected axle is used with independent suspension.
According to different driving methods, the axle is also divided into four types: steering axle, drive axle, steering axle and support axle. The steering axle and the supporting axle are both driven axles. Most cars use front-rear drive (FR), so the front axle is used as the steering axle and the rear axle is used as the drive axle; while the front-drive front (FF) car is the front drive axle and the rear axle is used as the support axle.
The structure of the steering axle is basically the same, consisting of two steering knuckles and a beam. If you compare the beam to the body, the knuckle is his head shaking from side to side, and the neck is the kingpin we often say, and the wheels are mounted on the knuckle, as if a straw hat is worn on the head. However, when driving, the straw hat turns, but the head does not turn. The middle is separated by bearings, and the head just shakes left and right. Neck-The kingpin is the axis of the wheel’s rotation. The axis of this axis is not perpendicular to the ground, and the wheel itself is not vertical. We will discuss it in detail in the wheel positioning section.
The difference between a steering drive axle and a steering axle is that everything is hollow, the beams become axle housings, and the knuckles become steering knuckle housings because there are more drive shafts inside. This drive shaft was split into two by a differential located in the middle of the axle housing, and it became two half shafts. The two straw hats are not simply put on the head, but also directly connected to the two semi-axes inside. The semi-axis also has a joint at the “neck” position-the universal joint, so the semi-axis has also become two parts, the inner semi-axis and the outer semi-axis.
